Cairo
Snokat
.
Cairo was my 2nd kitty. He was to be the playmate of Mocha (who I lost in May of 09). He came from the local human society and was a scrawny, gangly, solid white, 8 wk old kitten who looked more like a lab rat. Everyone said he was ugly, but I knew he'd grow into a beauty. He's named Cairo because in his more lean days he looked very Egyptian; regal and fine boned. He's a giant moose of a man now, around 18 lbs. He likes to lay on my chest or head and purr. He's quite a lover man.

Daphne
Snokat
.
This is my baby and best friend! She was a neglect/abuse case that I thought might just be a foster. She was 5 mo old and weighed 3 lbs. Half her hair had fallen out and she was covered in sores and urine scalding. After about 12 hours of her following me everywhere I knew I could never give her up. She is a Maltese-poodle mix and she is bright, loving, tenacious and full of so much personality. Everyone who swears they don't like foo-foo-poodle dogs has to admit she charms them! She is an amazing travel companion and nurse maid. Every day I'm thankful I have her.

Vivian
StateOfGrace

Vivi passed away right before Christmas but she made so many appearances in the Pootie Diaries that I thought it was important to include her with the others. I got her when she was already 9 years old and only had her for 4 years but her absence will be felt for a very long time. I have always loved tuxedo cats and she was such a good representative of that type. She had the perfect little tuxedo mask and the four white paws. But the thing that I loved most about her was her sweetness. She had a way of lying next to you and making you feel like she was taking care of you even though she only weighed about 8 lbs. She could make me smile even when she was sleeping because of her extremely loud snoring. You could hear her from one end of the house to the other. I sometimes wish I'd made an audio tape of her snoring - I really miss it.

Ethel
StateOfGrace

Ethel is 13 and 1/2 pounds of kitteh fun. She is the loudest and most playful cat I've ever had. Unfortunately, she does a lot of her playing in the middle of the night when I'm trying to sleep. I recently got her a package of ping pong balls and woke up at 3 a.m. when I felt one of them come flying through the air, hitting the headboard of my bed. She is completely unapologetic about waking me up, too. When I scold her she just bats her eyes and gives me one of her little irresistible smiles. My father once told me that kids who misbehave are punished in adulthood with their own naughty children. I think God is paying me back through Ethel.

Jake
StateOfGrace

Jake is the only male in my house but, interesting enough, he's the only one who gets a grooming and all-day spa treatment every 6 weeks. He is a 13 lb. miniature poodle. I got him when he was just over a year old and he's been with me for about 10 years now. He had some timidness and other assorted behavioral issues at first but over time has turned into a really good dog.He will do just about anything for a cookie.

Louise
StateOfGrace

Louise has been with me the longest of all my pets. I got her when she was about 11 months old 11 years ago. She is a beagle terrier mix and probably the smartest dog I've ever had. She is also one of the most sensitive. She saw me crying once and went and got one of her favorite tennis balls and very carefully placed it on my lap. I think it was her way of telling me that she was there for me. I recently noticed that she has a lot of white hair all over her muzzle and it made me a little sad. I cannot imagine my life without Louise in it. She is like my shadow.

Hattie
StateOfGrace

Hattie has already made quite an impression in the 5 weeks she's been with us. I have never seen a cat adjust to a new home as quickly and easily as she has. She is very quiet; she seldom meows and when she does it's very soft and almost a whisper. She loves toys almost as much as Ethel does and they both spend a lot of their time batting toys back and forth at each other. She also loves running around the house as fast as she can and finding high spots to lounge around on. When I caught her lying on top of my armoire, I had to take a picture of it. Here she is in all her glory looking at me like, "What's wrong? I belong here."
